Delivering Lasting Improvements Across Rural South Dakota

Duininck

Duininck completed a roadway improvement project along South Dakota Highway 42, spanning Davison, Hanson, and McCook Counties. The rural corridor project focused on improving roadway performance, safety, and ride quality across a long stretch of critical infrastructure.

The scope included roadway regrading, culvert replacements, extensions and linings, guardrail improvements, asphalt milling, and new asphalt paving. All work was completed on a two-lane roadway, with improvements spanning approximately 26 miles. Careful planning and coordination were required to maintain access for local traffic while delivering consistent quality across the full project length.

Duininck served as the prime contractor, overseeing scheduling, coordination, and execution while working closely with the South Dakota Department of Transportation throughout all phases of construction. Construction began in July 2024 and concluded in June 2025, allowing the project to progress efficiently across two construction seasons.

The project earned a ride quality award and is being considered for the Sheldon G. Hayes Award in 2027, NAPA’s highest achievement honor.
