Lac Qui Parle Dam Emergency Spillway Reconstruction

Duininck

Duininck was contracted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to complete approximately 2,500 linear feet of emergency spillway reconstruction at the Lac Qui Parle Dam on the Minnesota River near Watson, Minnesota. The $4.8 million project began in May 2025 and is scheduled for completion in summer 2026, with the work focused on improving the long-term stability and performance of the spillway infrastructure.

Construction progress during the first season was impacted by significant flooding, which required the project to be placed on hold for approximately 90 days. Work resumed in September 2025, allowing Duininck to complete roughly 50 percent of the overall scope before winter shutdown. The remaining work is planned for the 2026 construction season.

The project scope includes installation of sheet piling, construction of concrete slope protection, and placement of new riprap along the ditch bottom. Despite challenging river conditions and weather-related delays, the project remains on track through a phased construction approach aligned with seasonal flow conditions.
